Dr. Suzuki completed his graduate studies in Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo in 1997 under supervision of Prof. Yasuo Inoue and Assoc. Prof. Yasufumi Emori. After postdoctoral training at State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA under William J. Lennarz, he began his independent research career as a PRESTO researcher, JST in 2001. After serving as Specially-appointed Assistant Professor at The University of Tokyo (2002-2004), and Visiting Associate Professor at Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine (2004-2007), he became a team leader at Glycometabolome Team, Systems Glycobiology Research Group (Group Director, Naoyuki Taniguchi) at RIKEN (2007-2018). Since 2018, he holds a current position as a Chief Scientist at Glycometabolic Biochemistry Laboratory, Cluster of Pioneering Research, RIKEN. His research interests focus on the clarification of the novel catabolic pathways for glycans on glycoproteins, with a particular focus on an enzyme called Ngly1, a cytosolic peptide:N-glycanse widely conserved in eukaryotes.
