Dr. Hongzhi Cao is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Science at the Ocean University of China. He obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Zhengzhou University in 1997 and 2000, respectively. In 2004, he received his Ph.D. in chemistry from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) under the supervision of Professor Biao Yu. He is a postdoc fellow in the laboratory of Professor Xi Chen at the University of California at Davis from 2005-2009. In 2010, He moved back to China as an associate professor at Shandong University and promoted to full professor in 2016. Since 2020, he took his current position as a distinguished professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Science of Ocean University of China. His group develops novel strategy for the enzymatic or Chemoenzymatic synthesis of complex carbohydrates. Dr. Cao received the BASF Young Innovation Award (2019) from Chinese Chemical Society, the research grant award (2020) from the Mizutani Foundation for Glycosicence.
