Full Name
Dr. Weston Struwe
Speaker Bio
Weston is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford and Tutorial Fellow at Worcester College. He is also a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow and Group Leader in the Kavli Institute for NanoScience Discovery where his group studies the molecular mechanisms by which viruses, mainly HIV-1 and Ebola, glycosylate their surface proteins and the biophysics involved in host cell attachment, entry and antibody-mediated neutralisation. Our goal is to pin-point how glycans modulate multivalent interactions involved in infection and immune responses. To address this, the group develops methods in mass spectrometry, from glycomics to HDX, as well as mass photometry - a single molecule mass imaging technique he helped establish. Prior to his appointment, Weston was Chief Scientific Officer of Refeyn, a University of Oxford spin-out based on mass photometry.
