Speaker Bio
Fabian Pfrengle is professor and head of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria. He received his PhD in 2010 at the Freie Universität Berlin under the guidance of Prof. Hans-Ulrich Reißig. After a 3-year postdoctoral stint with James Paulson at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, he took a position as group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany, where he began working with synthetic plant glycans. At BOKU he continued pursuing his research interests in synthetic carbohydrate chemistry and plant glycobiology. Current projects in the Pfrengle laboratory are aimed at synthesizing oligosaccharides related to plant and algal polysaccharides using methods including automated glycan assembly and applying them to solve open questions in plant glycan biosynthesis, plant immunity and marine microbiology.
